Rumors about Ebola and Colloidal Silver
People are scared and as a result rumors about colloidal silver for Ebola are all over the internet. So in an effort to clarify the issue, we’re going to address the facts about Ebola and colloidal silver.
Colloidal Silver for Ebola: DOD and Ebola – Fact or Rumor?
Recently, as the hoopla about Ebola began exploding all over the news I did a search about “colloidal silver and Ebola”. I almost immediately came upon what looked like an official government report about how the Department of Defense (DOD) had conducted a test a few years ago to study the effectiveness of colloidal silver or “silver nanoparticles” in fighting Ebola.
Unfortunately, when I did the same search a few days later the “official report” was no longer to be found and all I could find were second-hand reports garnered from the same report I saw. So while I don’t like to pass on unverified information without a link for you to at least visit and verify the source, and while I’m not saying I do or do NOT believe the report, I’m sharing it so you can make up your own mind:
Back in 2008, the U.S. Department of Defense, working with other federal agencies researched the “use of silver nanoparticles against Ebola and other hemorrhagic fever viruses”.
They reported their results to the Federal Government in the form of the “federal health regulators and other national health authorities” in a report titled: “Silver Nanoparticles Neutralize Hemorrhagic Fever Viruses”. The bottom line of the report was that silver nanoparticles were “highly effective” against Ebola and other hemorrhagic fever viruses.
The study also found that silver nanoparticles (colloidal silver) were able to stop the virus cells from replicating or reproducing. In other words, the virus cells couldn’t make more virus cells (couldn’t make baby virus cells). However, this “neutralization of the virus” when exposed to silver happens “during the early phases of viral replication.”
Translation: For silver to work against Ebola it had to be taken preventatively BEFORE infection or within the first couple of hours following initial exposure to an infected person.
Colloidal Silver for Ebola: Separating Fact from Rumor
First despite the “report” above, to actually come out and state that “colloidal silver cures Ebola” is the height of irresponsibility and folly. However, you’ll find dozens of website flat out stating very claim…kind of sounds like some of the claims about essential oils doesn’t it?
Is it any wonder that the FDA and other governmental alphabet agencies are coming down hard on such claims of using colloidal silver for Ebola? Even if silver nanoparticles were effective against hemorrhagic fever viruses, why would anyone want to place themselves in the spotlight with the feds by making unsubstantiated claims of miracle cures?
Making No Claims about Colloidal Silver Curing Ebola
So while silver has been proven to be effective against bacteria, otherwise it would not be embedded in adhesive bandages, we are NOT claiming that it will CURE anything. As with any natural treatment where the effectiveness rests primarily on empirical evidence, you must make your own decision on whether or not to taken this nutritional supplement.
The truth is that colloidal silver is an amazing substance proven in clinical studies and by those who have used it to treat a number of conditions, ailments and diseases. However, it is NOT a cure-all and should not be touted as such, and to make claims about colloidal silver for Ebola is NOT something we are going to do here.
